Healthy Kids

Healthy Kids Association is proud to once again partner with Your Health Link National Photographic Competition.

Healthy Kids Association (HKA) supports and assists schools to create a healthy learning environment for children, from the canteen to the classroom. We have been promoting and influencing healthy food choices for children since 1991 and we are the primary source of advice on healthy food choices for around 3,200 schools in NSW and the ACT.

We believe that teaching healthy eating habits at a young age can change a person’s life for the better and we aim to educate and empower families, children and school canteens to make the healthiest food choices possible.

Our nutrition philosophy is one of balance, that promotes the five core food groups, variety and mindful eating. We also run important health education programs in schools including Fruit and Veg Month, Vegetable Week and the Big Vegie Crunch, supported by the Ministry of Health.

We’re looking for the photos that best capture the idea of eating and celebrating the rainbow!

What is eating the rainbow? Vegetables contain heaps of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients OR antioxidants that keep our bodies healthy. Veggies of different colours have different vitamins and minerals, so it’s important to eat a variety of colours so that we get all the nutrients we need.

Veggies also contain fibre, which helps us feel full and keeps everything running smoothly.

The best way to ensure you get all the nutritional benefits that veggies have to offer is by “eating the rainbow” – the more colours the better! You could eat the rainbow by making a colourful salad, a sandwich full of different hues or create a rainbow of veggies on your dinner plate. Can you think of any other ways to eat the rainbow?

The winning photos will also feature on the Healthy Kids Association website, in the 2020 Buyers Guide, in our Term 1 2020 Members Magazine and on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Eating the Rainbow Prize: 32GB Wifi iPad plus 1-year membership to Healthy Kids Association.
